Esophagitis
A condition that is characterized by the acute or chronic inflammation of the esophagus. Esophageal pain has patterns and may refer pain to the anterior chest. Esophagitis is frequently caused by the backflow of acid-containing fluid from the stomach to the esophagus. (Heine 2004)

- Burning, gripping, stabbing, or boring pain
- Difficulty swallowing
- Sore throat
- Radiating pain to neck, back, or upper arms
